I finally finished my Kong Armature Sculpt over the weekend! It's been difficult finding the time to work on Kong due to how busy our Bruce kit has been keeping us. This month, Bruce will dethrone our Tauntaun to become our best selling kit! That's a lot of kits to produce in a short period of time. Additionally, I've built, painted and shipped 35 Bruce kits so far. I'm only about halfway through my backlog that currently stretches into June of next year. I'm certainly not complaining...just thought I would mention it, since folks are probably wondering why this project is taking me so long. A few months back, Jason Walker over at Model Club TV said: "David...might...be...a...little...slow..." He may have been referring to my cognitive abilities, however.

I modified Kong's pose since my last post. I'm hoping that the addition of a third contact point - plus the increased arch of his back will add some stability. It should take some of the pressure off of those ankle joints at least.

I finished adding textures, nicks and scratches to everything and gave Kong a base to stand on. I actually sculpted a few different bases for him, before settling on the one shown. In the end, I opted to keep the base as simple as possible. There is a lot going on with the armature already, I didn't want to clutter things up too much with unnecessary forms, lines or details. The RKO plaque in the center had to stay though. For some reason, I really wanted that in there. :-)

Kong's arm and leg cylinders in the renderings above look a tad too skinny. They are the correct diameter once I print them. Here are the original prototype parts that I printed a while back. You can see how his "clavicle" and upper arm look correct. I just wanted to point this out, because it was making me a little crazy.
Anyhoo...Now that the sculpt is finished, and everything is keyed - I should be able to resume printing again this week while I work on the instructions. Hopefully, next week I will be able to post the release date and price. I do apologize for the agonizingly slow roll out. Hope you're liking everything so far!
