I finished up the Cinematic Bruce sculpt this weekend.  Well...almost.  Looks like I still have a few minor tweaks to make yet.  I'm sure my wife is shaking her head as she reads that last sentence.  LOL.   I've been close to 'finished' at least 3 times in the past two weeks.  I can't help it.   I just keep going and going and going until it becomes almost excruciating.   This is Bruce the Shark, dammit!  I have to get him right.  There is no point in doing this otherwise. I honestly feel as though I could spend another few days refining every surface, form and detail, but I have my limits and a lot of people have preordered Bruce and have been waiting patiently.

This should have been a quick and easy sculpt.  All I had to do was use the existing sculpt that I already had, close off his open side and make a few tweaks...right?  Nope.  That makes too much sense.  To be fair, that was my initial plan, but I decided to do some exploring in order to see if I could capture that quintessential Bruce look that I was after.  I spent a lot of time just trying to get his overall proportions correct as well as getting that damn lower jaw in the right place in terms of width and depth.  Bruce had a really wide jaw.  If I had just sculpted his head sticking out of the water, this probably wouldn't have caused me too much trouble. For whatever reason, trying to reconcile this with the rest of his body was a bit tricky the first time around.  This latest version has a much wider head and jaw.  However, I still restrained the width of his mouth just slightly.  If I didn't,  he would end up with a laughable 'Joker' smile.  I also refrained from opening his mouth to the extreme as I felt he looked a little silly in profile.

Here are just two examples illustrating just how wide Bruce's mouth really was:

Bruce with his mouth wide open
Bruce the shark wide mouth closed
Bruce with his mouth semi-closed

May as well show the rest of the images I used to sculpt Bruce. I believe there's a point where you can actually have too much reference material.

The next step is to separate Bruce out into smaller pieces and begin the printing process.  At some point during this phase, I will be taking him out of the preorder stage, so don't miss out on the preorder bonus pack.
